A green stoneware jug with high relief moulded decoration, first designed by Minton in 1831. Silenus was a god of Bacchus' retinue a merry rotund old drunkard; he was nevertheless credited with wisdom and prophetic powers. He is shown here leading Bacchus' triumphal procession supported by satyrs. Numbered 19M to the base.
